In general, any organisation requiring a load to be lifted and moved, which does not own its own crane, has two basic options:
Hiring a crane (Crane Hire) or
Employing a contractor to carry out the lifting operation (Contract Lift)
Crane Hire should only be undertaken by individuals or organisations that can satisfy the crane owner that they have sufficient knowledge, experience and training in performing a lifting operation safely.
If an individual/organisation does not have the expertise in lifting operations, does not have the correctly-trained personnel or just wishes to take the worry out of completing a detailed lifting operation and insurance arrangements themselves, then Southern Cranes can help. We can provide a comprehensive contract solution with an emphasis on safety.
The hiring individual or organisation requiring a load to be lifted must:
carry out all work as per British Standard 7121 'Safe use of cranes' and LOLER (Lifting Operation & Lifting Equipment Regulations)
supply a qualified Appointed Person to plan and oversee the works
ensure that the crane hired is of a suitable type and capacity
write a method statement (lifting plan), risk assessment etc. to ensure the lift is carefully planned and carried out
have adequate and appropriate insurance cover
check the credentials and certifications of the crane hire company.
A hirer who wants a lift to be undertaken but does not have the relevant expertise should ask us to undertake a contract lift. We will:
carry out the work as per British Standard 7121 'Safe use of cranes' and LOLER (Lifting Operation & Lifting Equipment Regulations)
visit your site to assess the planned work and suggest the best way to meet your needs
select the correct equipment/solution to meet your requirements
supply you with a detailed 'Method Statement' for the work and 'Risk Assessment' documentation, all prepared by a trained CPCS Appointed Person
appoint all the 'Lifting Operation Team' including the CPCS qualified operator(s), Slinger Signaller(s) and Lifting Supervisor
organise and control the delivery of equipment to site and the lifting operation.
We can also supply any 'traffic management' and additional transport as required.
The hiring-in organisation will need to supply us with the details of the ground conditions and any underground services so that we can ensure the correct crane and equipment is planned for and delivered.
Please note: All lifting operations to be undertaken at a household address will be assumed to be a domestic customer until all assurances are met.
We have a wide range of powered access equipment and are able to supply many more machines than are listed here. With such a versatile fleet we can offer our clients the ideal access solution.
